I’ve been so super busy that I guess I just haven’t had time to write here. And I thought I was going to get a chance to relax this summer.
Anyway, my son got the bow and arrows that he wanted finally. I took him to Bass Pro Shop last Saturday so we could get it, and afterward we had lunch in the restaurant there. I don’t remember the name of it, but it was pretty damn good. He loves his new bow and already got a blister from using it so much. He asked if he could stay at his grandparent’s house for a week so that he could practice using it, since he can’t really practice using it here. My mom made him a target and she said he’s really good at hitting it.
I guess now when he goes fishing with his great uncle and his cousins he will at least have some practice. I didn’t get him the razor sharp arrows, though. He’s got the soft tips, but that’s because this is his first bow and I really don’t want him hurting himself or someone else.

I recently wrote about Bass Pro Shop having a free Summer day camp of sorts for kids, and it’s all free. They’ve got tons of activities for the kids and even take pictures and give away free kids meals. It’s Saturdays and Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 5th I believe. Anyway, there’s a new Bass Pro Shop near my parent’s house, and since my son was there last weekend when I learned about the event I called them up and told them about it. My step-dad was nice enough to take my son.
He called me as soon as they got back to tell me all about it. I knew before he even went that his favorite thing to do would be to shoot a bow and arrow. He’s been really into the bow and arrow thing for quite awhile and actually asked if he could take archery lessons this summer. I also promised him a bow and arrow, but I’ll save that for another post because I don’t feel like digging up the picture of the bow he’s getting right now. He’s excited about it, though. That’s for sure.
Also his great uncle has offered to take him hunting with him when he goes and offered to teach him how to hunt with his bow and arrow. I’m kind of worried about it, but I think that if the proper safety precautions are taken it should be fine.
He’ll have tons of practice this summer anyway, with spending time shooting the bow at both grandpa’s houses. There’s plenty of wide open space at both places for him to get some good shooting practice in.
Guess I better also invest in some kind of target. >_<

Tonight my son and I spent a while reading some of his favorite poems by Shel Silverstein. I bought him three Shel Silverstein books for Christmas several years back and he still loves them. The three books he has are “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” “A Light In the Attic” and “Falling Up” but his favorite of the three is Where the Sidewalk Ends. That one was my favorite as a child, also.
I really enjoy the quirky, imaginative way he writes and although unconventional his poetry has entertained many children.
One of my favorite poems by Shel Silverstein is “Bear in There.” It’s a poem about a polar bear living inside of a child’s refrigerator. It’s really cute, though. He makes up some of his own words and uses them in such a funny and creative way. I also really like the poem “My Beard.” It’s super short but really funny.
My beard grows down to my toes,
I never wears no clothes,
I wraps my hair
Around my bare,
And down the road I goes.
How cute is that?
