Sugar And Spice And Everything Nice

It's A Girl!Well, it looks like my little punkin is going to soon have a new little girl cousin soon. My friend, and Eric’s Aunt Erica is having a little girl in a few months. They just found out the gender of the baby a couple of weeks ago. I’m sure she’s thrilled. I think Erica will make an excellent mother, she’s lived her life and had her fun, and settled down nicely. I’m so happy for her.

Speaking of babies, Eric called me from my mom’s yesterday (yes he’s still there) to tell me that my mom was babysitting my cousin’s newborn son. Eric was so excited to have him there, he adores babies so much it’s not even funny. He’s constantly asking me to “give him a brother or sister”. HAH. No more kids for me, but I sure don’t mind other people’s babies. Babies are usually so cute and cuddly. They lose their cuteness at about age 3-4 though, especially if they turn into obnoxious little children.

Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog TailsAnyway, remember that old saying.. “What are little boys made of?” - Answer: “Frogs and snails and puppydog tails.” “What are little girls made of?” - Answer: “Sugar and spice and everything nice.”. I don’t believe this to be true because honestly I have had a pretty easy time with my little boy and I have friends who have little girls who are heathens. My son does like frogs and snails though, so I dunno. LOL. :P

HowCast

My son has a new favorite website. Since he’s not been allowed to watch youtube.com very much he’s been into this website called Howcast. This site is basically a how-to website for nearly anything you can think of. I have to keep an eye on what he learns here, because some of this stuff I’d rather him not know LOL. His favorite category is the Crafts & Hobbies section, He’s been making all kinds of Origami stuff. One of the coolest things is the Origami Inflatable Bunny. It takes some practice and patience to get it right, but he did an awesome job. Maybe later I can convince him to make another one and I’ll take a picture. :P

Summer Camp

Well, today was Eric’s 2nd day at youth nature camp. It’s just a week long, but he’s having so much fun. Yesterday they went to the nature center and went hiking, and today they went to Armand Bayou, went on a nature walk, and looked at the different animals that inhabit the area. It started to rain though, so they had to come back to nature camp early. He’s excited about tomorrow because they are going rock climbing. I’m a little nervous about that, but it’s mostly an “introduction” to rock climbing, and they won’t be climbing any overly high or dangerous rocks, but still. That’s my baby.

He’s also excited about Friday, the last day of the nature camp, because they are going fishing. Fishing is one of his favorite things to do, although for the life of me I can’t figure out why. I guess it’s a boy thing. lol. He likes going fishing with his paternal grandfather, which is something he hasn’t gotten to do in awhile. He usually comes to visit his family for a little while in the summer, so I’m sure if he does he’ll come by and take Eric out on the boat.

I’m glad for the most part that it’s summertime. I just can’t believe that my little baby is going to be in 3rd grade. Crazy.

Water Jelly Crystals - Steve Spangler

As I’ve said time and time again, I am a proud subscriber to the Steve Spangler science eNewsletter. This week in my email is an “experiment” on gardening with water jelly crystals. Using these water jelly crystals helps conserve water, which in today’s world is an important issue. The real name for these crystals is polyacrylamide copolymer gel, and is non-toxic. The crystals are sold under the trade name of Hydrosource and Soil Moist. One pound of Hydrosource will absorb up to 35 gallons of rainwater or snowmelt, and 20-25 gallons of tap water, depending on it’s salt content. Anyways, I could go on and on, but I’ll just link you so that you can check it out for yourself. If you are interested in gardening or conserving water, or just want to check out some of the cool experiments then feel free. There are several different experiments that you can try with this stuff, but since we haven’t actually done any yet, I’m not going to post them up. If anyone uses these or has tried any of these experiments at home, comment and let me know how you like them. I’d really like to know. The Video and Experiments with the Water Jelly Crystals is here. Check it out. :P

Home Made Brown Sugar Scrub

My son made this scrub for me at school as a mother’s day gift. It’s a really simple and neat gift idea I thought I’d share with my readers. I also already used the scrub and it leaves your skin feeling amazingly clean and smooth. This stuff is marketed for upwards of about $65.00. Anyways, here ya go!

Ingredients:

1 Cup of brown sugar
1/2 Cup of Sweetened Almond Oil
1 tsp of Vitamin E
1 tsp vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp Honey

Directions:
Mix the liquids (almond oil, vitamin e, vanilla extract, and honey) together in a bowl. Add the brown sugar and mix it up really well. If you are just using it for yourself you can simply use a plastic storage container with a lid. If you plan on giving as a gift, or just want to make it look pretty, you can use some little decorative jars or bottles. If you like you can even decorate the bottles.

Got any ideas like this you’d like to share? Comment and let me know!
