My Son Is 9 Today

Today is Eric’s 9th birthday. We didn’t do a whole lot because his party is on Saturday, but I did let him open one of the smaller gifts I got him. It wasn’t anything overly big, but he loved it. I guess that just shows how well I know my kiddo, lol. It was a small Lego Star Wars set, and he has been playing with it since he got home from school. He wanted t-bone for dinner tonight, as his “birthday dinner” so we went and picked up a fat t-bone from the grocery store and some stuff for baked potatoes. He loves that stuff.

I can’t believe my son is already 9 years old. I can still remember very vividly the first time I saw him, held him, and looked into his eyes. He was and still is so beautiful. I sometimes can’t believe I’m so blessed. I know I complain sometimes about certain things, but I think everyone complains sometimes. It’s just in our nature, isn’t it? I mean just seeing him smile and making him happy is the highlight of my day. And that’s all that I need. I live for that smile.

This morning when he got out of the car and ran to the bus, like every other morning, I just watched him carrying his little lunch bag and heading off to school and it made me smile. I couldn’t help think to myself how proud I am of him. He’s growing up to be a really wonderful young man and I love watching him grow. I thank God for blessing me with Eric every day of my life.

There’s This Thing I Want

I saw this really cool exercise thing that I want to get. I was hinting at Chris to perhaps get it for me for Christmas, but he seemed to think it was a stupid idea. It’s this deal that you use kind of like an exercise bike but it’s just the pedals and I guess you sit in a regular chair and use it. It seems cool, for someone like me with a small apartment who doesn’t have the space for an entire bike. Chris kind of laughed and said why didn’t I get some diet pills or fat burner or something. I really didn’t see the humor though. I really want this machine and I’m seriously hoping to get it. It’s only about $80.00 at JCP, so maybe I can talk him into it. Or maybe I’ll just buy it for myself!

Working Part-Time And My Very Own Uniforms!

A friend of mine has just recently started his own business. He opened up his own party supply and custom balloon printing shop. I used to work at a balloon printing place when I was much younger, and I know the ins and outs so he’s been talking to me about it a little bit. He’s been asking me to come work for him part time because I already have the experience that is needed, and he said he’d even order me my very own personalized set of uniforms with my name on it and I could train the new hires and show them how to run the printing machines. I am considering it because it’s something I’m good at and I enjoyed doing. Also, the extra money around Christmas time would be really great.

I asked him where he was getting the uniforms because I wasn’t sure that I wanted to wear one unless they were decent looking. He said he’s getting his own work uniform, as well as the uniforms for the screen printer at a place called Unifirst. He said they have a great reputation, have been in business since 1936 and come highly recommended by his very own father who actually wears their coveralls at his mechanic’s shop every day. With a recommendation from his own father, how can I refuse anyway? I’m going in to his office to talk things over with him and get fitted for my cool new uniforms next Monday. I wonder what color the uniforms will be.

Wearing a uniform reminds me of my grandfather. He, too, wore Unifirst uniforms in the workplace. He was a mechanic, also, and wore the coveralls so as not to get really dirty while he was working. I remember him coming home from work every evening in his navy blue uniform and giving him a big hug. I’d get grease all over me, usually, but I didn’t care.
