We Baked Some Cookies

My kiddo likes doing stuff with me, and cooking is no exception. I like to find things that we can do together in the kitchen and one of the things I’ve found that he really likes to do is bake. It’s fun and relatively easy. Anyway, to make a short story even shorter, the other night I promised him we’d bake up some homemade chocolate chip cookies.

I’m diabetic so even though I love to bake goodies I can’t really eat very many of them. I did eat two cookies though, and they were yummy. They are best when warm so right after they were done I put some on a plate for Eric and gave him some milk to go along with it.

Anyway, I got the recipe several years ago from a bag of sugar of all things, and tweaked it a little bit to my liking. It’s fairly easy and doesn’t take alot of time to whip up a batch either. I’m starting a cooking/recipe blog soon and you’ll be able to find the recipe there if interested.

Relaxation

Being a single parent can sometimes be pretty stressful. I don’t get alot of time to relax, so when the opportunity comes up for me to get away, relax, or get a break then I’m all for it. That’s why when my good friend invited me over to check out the sauna that her husband bought for her as an early Christmas present I was all for it. She’s pregnant right now, but says after the baby is born she wants me to come over and try it out. To be perfectly honest I’ve only been in a sauna one time in my entire life, and that was when I went to a spa. It was so relaxing, I didn’t want to get out. Saunas are not only good for relaxation, but alot of people don’t know that they are good for helping you burn calories and lose weight. Some other benefits of a sauna include improved circulation, detoxification, pain relief and dkin purification. My friend Erica is so lucky to have her very own personal sauna. I would love to have one, but my apartment is rather small and there is simply no place for it. I was checking out some of the different saunas on CrystalSauna.Com. I didn’t know a sauna came with an AM/FM radio and Cd player. I think that’s really cool and you can even attach your MP3 player. I’m so jealous.

Does Your Child Have ADHD?

My son is a little hyperactive. He has a hard time staying on task sometimes, and I used to worry that he might have something like ADD or ADHD. I worried because several people in my family suffer from ADHD and although I’m not sure that it is hereditery it’s still a concern for me. ADHD is a behavioral disorder that affects approximately 10% of school-aged children, with boys being 3 times more likely to be diagnosed. Children with ADHD usually act on impulse, without thinking, are overly hyperactive, and have trouble focusing on anything for any given length of time. ADHD makes learning difficult because it’s hard for the child to sit still or pay attention.

ADHD was previously known as ADD, or attention deficit disorder. It was renamed to ADHD in 1994, and broken down into subtypes. Hyperactive-Impulsive, Inattentive and Combined Type. Some of the signs of ADHD include excessive talking, fidgeting or squirming, distractibility, forgetfulness, listening problems and difficulty playing quietly. ADHD is not easily diagnosed, however, because there is no set test that can determine if a child has ADHD or not. A complete evaluation has to be made and the symptoms that the child displays must negatively affect at least two areas of the child’s life. All children are a little hyperactive at times, but if you think your child might be suffering from ADHD you should definitely get him or her to a professional who can diagnose and treat as soon as possible. With treatment, children with ADHD can learn to manage their symptoms.
