It seems like it’s getting harder and harder to keep my home clean. I also find that my child is becoming lazier by the day. I can barely get him to do anything anymore, without offering him money or some sort of compensation. I’ve considering beating him into submission, but I’m not even sure that’s legal, lol. He barely picks up after himself, and I’m left to do it if I want a clean home. Of course, my OCD doesn’t allow for the mess to be left. I find myself getting angry at him, and kind of resentful. I mean, I know he’s a child but he’s 8 years old, and very capable of picking up after himself. Even his room is a disgusting mess, and I’ve been telling him for weeks to clean it. I got some new speakers for his computer but I told him he can’t have them until he cleans his room. He tried to bargain with “I’ll clean up my desk area.” Excuse me? Needless to say the speakers are still sitting in the box and will remain there. I’m not rewarding him for being lazy. It seems unless I am on top of his every move, constantly reminding him to throw away his trash, pick up his mess, or put his dishes in the sink then it’s just not getting done. I’m exhausted. I can’t imagine having more than 1 kid, either. I think I’d go nuts.

Oh I absolutely think that’s legal and that’s what I would do. That’s just impossible to tolerate. Though my 25-year old “little man” leaves a mess everywhere he goes and it’s so hard to get him to pick it up. Bleh.
I read your post and the one about beating him made me laugh.
I had one of these same days the other day. I picked up the whole living room right after I put my two yr old down to sleep. About thirty minutes later he was screaming so I went in to see what was wrong and his diaper was leaking all over the place. So, I had to get him out and change his sheets and go through the whole deal.
I figured it would be useless to try to lay him back down after all that commotion so I just let him play while I cleaned up his bed.
I go back in the living room to find my soda spilled over and toys all over the living room floor again.
I just had to laugh cause otherwise I would have been pulling my hair out!
And don’t even get me started on the dog! : )
