When They Are Little..

Remember when your baby was really a baby? Or when he or she was just learning to talk? I used to love listening to Eric talk, because his cute little voice was so adorable. I loved the way he pronounced certain words. When he was around 18 months he actually started saying stuff like “hi” and “no”, but he would whisper like he was unsure of himself. I remember when he was about 2, he came in the room and shouted his name at me, except he called himself “Ewok” cause he just couldn’t pronounce it quite right. The nickname Ewok stuck with him and I still call him that sometimes even though he’s not a little baby anymore. Another thing he would say that I still sometimes say is “tweepy”, which in his vocabulary meant “sleepy”. Too cute. Here’s a picture of him as a toddler just for the cuteness reference.

Eric 18 mths

I was reminded of all of this when my parents sent him home with a cassette tape of recordings they had made when he was little and would leave messages on their answering machine. They didn’t have Caller ID back then so they would let their machine pick up and wait for the person to leave a message. Eric would always leave the cutest messages, just cause he had that little baby voice. I still catch him listening to that cassette sometimes, and I think I’ve mentioned it here before. I want to transfer it to a cd so that I can upload some of them as mp3 or wav files. They are just too adorable not to.

What cute things did your kids say when they were toddlers?

Back Talk

Lately I have been rather unhappy with the way my child has been “talking back” to me. I’m almost to the point that I am going to start grounding him for it. I have tried other forms of discipline for this particular issue and nothing seems to be making any progress. I almost feel that grounding a child for sassing is a little extreme, but if taking away toys, time outs, and computer and television restriction don’t do the trick then what else is there? I thought of putting soap in his mouth, too, but I don’t know. It’s quite frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good boy. He’s just got a little mouth on him. My mother said I was the same way. I thought I was a Miss Know-It-All, and no one could tell me otherwise. Some would say I’m still that way. I guess that’s where he gets it from.

Anyway, I guess I’ll figure something out but if anyone has any suggestions I’m open to hear them.
