Getting Back To Normal

Well life is starting to get back to normal. Sometimes you take things for granted, like just being able to chill in the comfort of your own home. My parents, myself, and my grandmother were all very lucky. My grandma’s home is still without electricity, my mom’s lights came on about an hour before they got home on Sunday, and mine had been on for about 2 days before we came home. The city itself has taken a real butt kicking from Ike, and it’s going to take a long, long time to get up and running like normal. It’s weird though, to see one building completely destroyed and then right next to it sits a building that was left completely intact. It seems Ike was selective. My apartment building was untouched. The one directly next to mine with only a sidewalk separating the buildings, was really screwed up. Another building in my complex caught fire, and a couple more were pretty damaged. What was once a nice apartment complex now looks pretty crappy. :(

I almost got into a really bad wreck Sunday night coming home from getting dinner. There are hardly no street lights on, because there is no electricity in most parts of the city, and the traffic lights aren’t working either. Everyone knows when you come to a traffic light that isn’t working you are to treat it like a 4-way stop. Well, since it was nearly pitch black outside I really didn’t even see the traffic light and almost hit another SUV that was crossing the street. It was pretty scary, and I’m thankful that my breaks work so well.

I’m glad you’re ok and didn’t get into a wreck. So scary. I mean really, if you can’t see, it’s hard to know there’s a signal out.
