As I may have mentioned before, my parents have a friend who lives in my apartments. I asked them to call her and find out exactly what the situation is because I’m so anxious to be able to get back home. She said that there is still no power, but the water is okay. She also said there is absolutely no food anywhere. The grocery stores are running on generators, but there is no food on the shelves, especially non perishable foods. She and her family had to get food from a U.S Army truck that was handing out non perishable items and ready to eat meals earlier today.
What this tells me is that it’s not time to go home yet. I mean it gets too hot for one, to live without electricity, but no food? It’s already going to be bad enough because all the stuff in my fridge and freezer are ruined. I’m not complaining though, I know that I’m one of the lucky ones. My home is still in one piece and we are safe and have a place to sleep and a roof over our heads right now when so many other people don’t. But I’m not going back when the living conditions are still pretty bad.
Thankfully Eric’s school is still closed through the rest of the week so he won’t be counted as absent. They had originally called everyone with a recording saying schools would be closed until today, Tuesday, but I hadn’t heard anything else. I was kind of worried, but I’m not driving back and living with no food or electricity just to keep my son from being absent from school.

Schools in my area are closed for the rest of the week, I’d imagine the same would be true for your area since you still don’t have power. They can’t hold school in the dark. That’s just awful that there’s no food left. Our stores are starting to get food, so if you end up coming back and there still isn’t food, you may need to travel west.
