An Update On Hurricane Ike

Well, I’m sure some of you are pretty sick of hearing about Hurricane Ike, but for those of us who are being affected by this ugly storm, it’s all we can think about at the moment. I am actually pretty worried. I heard on Fox News earlier that they are saying those that didn’t evacuate the coastal areas are facing certain death. They were instructed to write their social security numbers on their arms. What I don’t understand is why some of those people chose to stay. One grocery store owner in Galveston, Tx gave his reason for staying as “We were told to evacuate for Hurricane Rita and nothing happened.” That’s a dumb reason if you ask me. We evacuated for Hurricane Rita, and I ended up driving for over 24 hours just to get to a city that should have only taken me 6-8 hours to drive to. I was stuck in that traffic. I was miserable, and so was my son. But we still took the warnings seriously. I am not responsible just for myself here, I am responsible for my son’s life as well and that is why I left. Our apartment will more than likely be under water, but if by chance it isn’t harmed I will thank God and give a big sigh of relief because right now it just does not look good. Hurricane Ike is owning Galveston, and will be kicking Houston’s butt within a few hours. I feel bad for those who stayed, especially in Surf Side, Galveston, and the other coastal areas. I also feel they were stupid, everyone was warned. This is just horrible. I’ll probably update more later, but right now I am going to keep myself glued to the news. Right now my kiddo is bored and begging to use the computer. Thank goodness our hotel has free broadband service, even if it is laggy as hell.

I too think it is sad that people stayed behind when they were told to expect 25 foot storm surges. The ticker on the news says everyone who got the storm surge in their area will not have a home to go back to, and that’s just scary, but worse if they go back to dead bodies of their friends and loved ones. Things are still a-ok here in Katy though in case you were wondering, we’re barley getting wind yet.
