My parents live in Brazoria County, and they are being evacuated tonight and tomorrow morning. I, on the other hand, live a little further north than they do. Being that this hurricane is going to be a big one, I have decided after much deliberation that I, too and going to pack up my stuff and my kid and get the heck out of here. Hurricanes are serious business, sometimes. Ike seems like it’s going to do a number on us, and I personally don’t want to stick around for it. The hardest part of all this has actually been trying to find a hotel room somewhere that is far enough inland. It seems that every one and their mother are also doing the same exact thing because it was a frustrating task. I eventually found one up in Irving, which is about 4 hours North and even though they say they’ll probably get some rain, it’s still not going to be nearly as bad as what we are supposed to get.
I filled up the tank this morning, cause I know gas prices are probably going to soar as the days go on and this hurricane gets closer. I personally wasn’t really going to head out at first, seeing as the big fat Gustav turned out to be a dud (thankfully) but I have a child, and I just don’t want to take the chance. So in the wee hours of the morning my parents are heading my way and we will head out with them. I’m not looking forward to the traffic. When we evacuated for Rita, my son and I were in it for 24 hours just to make what would normally be a 6 hour trip.

Monday afternoon after my 8 year old son came home from school, he informed me that although he had to do his math homework, he did not have to do spelling homework. As long as he got it done by the end of the week, he said, then it would be fine because they don’t turn their homework in until Friday. So he asked if he could please skip it for the night because he was tired. Being the pushover that I am, I went ahead and allowed him to skip doing his spelling homework for the night. I mean he does well in school and can practically spell any word you throw at him, so I figured it wouldn’t do any harm. Well, yesterday, I went ahead and made him do his Monday night spelling homework. I always check his work when he’s done to make sure he did it completely and everything is done correctly to the teacher’s specifications and what do I find at the top of his Monday night spelling homework page? This:

Yep, you guessed it. He lied to me about not having to have it done. I’m not exactly sure how to handle this because he doesn’t really make a habit out of lying, but I don’t want him to make it a habit either. I basically stressed to him the importance of telling the truth and how being lied to makes me feel. I really can’t stand to be lied to. Lying is one of the worst things you can do to me, because it’s so hard once you break my trust to get it back. I can’t really not trust my son though, so it’s kind of a tough situation.

For awhile now I have been considering returning to my old career as a skip tracer. My main reasons for this aside from the money aspect is that I can do most if not all of my work from home, which would benefit myself and my child in the long run. Child care expenses are through the roof, as any parent knows. Anyway, I’ve been asked time and time again what being a skip tracer entails. It’s basically finding people who don’t want to be found. In all actuality anyone can be a good skip tracer. There are numerous online resources to help you in your searches, and some of them are even free. You can access various public records including property taxes, Marriage Records, and in some states you can even access voter and vehicle registration records. All you have to do is simply find the right website to do the searches, and believe me there are plenty. One such website that I think would be very useful in said searching would be USMarriageRecords.Org. There you can search for marriage records by entering certain search criteria such as County, City, State or Zip Code. Sites like that with online database searches have been proven very helpful to me in my old line of work.
