Glowing Germs and GIANTmicrobes

Toxic Mold GIANTmicrobeI absolutely love Steve Spangler, and so does my son. He spends alot of time on the Steve Spangler Science Website. As I’ve said before, one of his favorite subjects in school is science, and he aspires to be a scientist when he grows up. (yeah, awwwwee.) Anyway, as Steve Spangler says, it’s kind of hard to teach kids about germs because you can’t really see them. So now they’ve come up with giant germs, which are basically stuffed germ “animals” that resemble the germs themselves and I guess how they look under a microscope. They’re actually called GIANTmicrobes, and some of them are actually kind of cute. I’m not completely sure about that whole thing, but it’s a neat idea. They even have an H.I.V microbe. If you are interested in any of these you can pick them up at the Steve Spangler website or you can visit www.giantmicrobes.com.

Anyway, along with the GIANTmicrobes toys, there are some other things that you can use to help teach your child about germs. One of these things is called GLO germ lotion and when it’s applied to your hands or any other item, and a black light is used the germs will all glow. You can rub it on your child’s hands early in the morning, it goes on and dries clear, and when the day is over, you can use a blacklight to show your child all of the different things he or she has touched and help teach the importance of washing their hands and also keeping things clean. Check out the video for more info, he explains it alot better than I do.

What Are Your Kids Listening To On The Radio?

Yesterday while I was listening to the morning radio show on a local station I like to listen to, they started talking about sex. Now, that’s normally not a big deal but for some reason it struck me that there are probably alot of kids that happen to listen to that same particular station in the mornings on their way to school and what not. I mean, granted it’s obviously a mature audience type of show, but who’s to stop a kid with an mp3 player that plays fm radio stations from listening. I know Eric likes that type of music and listens to that radio station all the time, and I simply don’t feel comfortable with him listening to them talk about the benefits of having sex. I know it’s my job to make sure he isn’t exposed to such things, but I can’t be with him 24/7 and I definitely can’t control every single thing he sees or hears. So what to do? I mean their conversation wasn’t terrible it just wasn’t appropriate for a kid to be listening to.

So I’m thinking maybe, just maybe, even though I love that radio station and their early morning show, they should consider cleaning up their daily bit of conversation just a little bit and maybe make it more kid friendly. Just a thought.

I’m Glad School Starts Monday

Well, the summer flew by, but I’m kind of glad school is starting back. I am looking forward to helping Eric with his homework and hearing about all the new stuff he’ll be learning everyday. He always looks so cute when he’s explaining something to me that he learned at school. The look on his face is so precious.

Anyway, I have been saying all summer that I’m going to list his old books up for sale, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I might actually create my own amazon.com store or something along those lines. I refuse ot sell anything on eBay anymore because they just like to take out too much money.

I don’t know why I’m up so late. I need to get to bed. I just felt like blogging. Goodnight, People.
