Is It Worth THAT Much Money?

My boyfriend and I have been kind of having a debate lately about what to get the kiddo for Christmas. He thinks I should get him a Wii. I mean, I’m sure he’d like having the Wii, but it’s a pretty expensive gift for a child that will have just barely turned 9. I mean, I don’t plan on spending more than $500-800 on Christmas.. which in my opinion is quite a bit, and a nintendo Wii costs on average $360.00 alone. That’s without games or anything. A bundled package is close to $600.00. Now, granted, last year I was looking to get him a Nintendo Wii, but that’s back when they only cost around $250.00. I just can’t fathom the idea of spending nearly four hundred bucks on a game console for my child. I do realize that Christmas is still a bit far off, but last year around Christmas time they were so hard to find. I’m torn between getting it and not getting it. I just don’t want to wait until the last minute, and decide that I wanna get it and then it not be available. Grrr.

That does sound like a difficult decision. Cause if you don’t get it now, you might not get one in time. If you wait, they might come out with something better or just be sold out. I’m kinda there with the PS3 that Steven wants. He’s my “child” I suppose, so I’m debating a 400 spend on him for xmas as well.

It is alot of money, isn’t it? I dunno though, I’d probably spend the 400 on the hubby.. but like you said as soon as you spend the money, a newer better system will come out and he’ll want that!

A WII?? Don’t get it. It’ll make you mad in the end because it causes neglect. The WII’s waaaay to addictive imo.

Well, alot of things are addictive, but how would it cause neglect? LOL.

My word, no Wii! It will eat your child alive!

I work at a video game company and I don’t even own a Wii.

Find a way to get it cheaper. My best friend’s mom bought it off my best friend’s ex (’s dog’s neighbor…) in cash for $300 bundled with an extra controller and a few games. It can be done.

Thanks for the advice. I like how you say no Wii, then find a way to get it cheaper. Way to confuse me!! (Just kidding). I will have to find a way if he’s getting one cause I refuse to pay that much money for it. :P

Being a gamer myself (from the age of 6 up) I would recommend (since you don’t already have video game consoles in your house) that you try a hand held first. PSP or Nintendo DS. Great game for younger kids and cheap ($130 last time I looked for one). The Wii does have it’s advantages though. It’s basically a work-out disguised as a video game console. Plus almost all the games out for it are basically centered around family play.
Enough rambling. I hope I helped a little bit in some strange way. ;x

Well, we actually do have consoles, just nothing that expensive. He has an old N64, a Game Cube, and a PS2. He also has a Gameboy Advanced and I have a DS. So he has plenty of entertainment in that department, but you know how boys are with always wanting new consoles and systems and games and blah blah blah! It’s kind of how I am with the computer, LOL. :(

Thanks for the advice though. I have heard that the Wii gets you alot of exercise, and is more family oriented. It’s just.. more than I want to spend, but I’ll probably end up doing it anyway! LOL <3
