I Need New Clothes

I need new clothes. I’m usually so focused on making sure Eric has everything he needs that I sometimes forget to do shopping for myself. It’s been years since I’ve bought myself any new clothes. I was going through my closet earlier looking for something nice to wear to a an up and coming baby shower I’m going to and could find nothing. All I have are business suits from when I worked full time, or out of style clothes from years ago. Sad, isn’t it? Anyways so I decided it’s time for me to get a few new outfits. I was looking at roca wear clothing because I’d seen some really cute roca wear shirts that I thought I might like to have. They’ve also got some really hot summer dresses I definitely want. Plus they are having a huge sale right now. I wonder if I can talk the boyfriend into buying me a few cute outfits? :P

Healthy Snacking

Most parents have a hard time getting their kids to eat veggies. Especially fresh veggies. I don’t happen to have that problem. Not only will my son eat veggies, he’s happy having them as a mid-day or after-school snack. My secret? Fat Free Ranch Dressing. I learned at an early age that most children (no, not all.. I said most) love ranch dressing. I don’t know what it is about the stuff, but if you give my kid a little container of ranch dressing and anything he’ll more than likely eat it. It’s just an idea, and one worth trying.

There are tons of other ways to get your child to snack healthy without them actually thinking about their snacks as “healthy”. Here are a few things I give my son to snack on that I think are pretty good.

1. Sugar Free Jello topped with lite redi whip. There’s hardly any sugar at all in lite redi whip. They think they are getting a really yummy treat. Also, you can throw some fresh fruit in the Jello before it sets. (as an added bonus, your kids can actually help make the Jello)
2. Baby carrots or celery and Fat Free Ranch dressing.
3. Chilled Apple slices or Orange wedges. The best way to do this is cut the apples up, or the oranges up and put them in a baggie in the fridge for when they get the urge for a snack. They’ll already be there and you won’t have to wait.
4. Sugar Free Kool-Aid pops. If you want to make them.. or even sugar free popsicles.
5. Light popcorn.
6. Yogurt. Regular or frozen.
7. Pretzels or baked chips.

I know they aren’t all original ideas, but that’s how I keep my kiddo eating a little healthier. If you’ve got any good healthy snack ideas, comment or email me. I’d love to hear about them.

This Summer

On Monday my son brought home this flier from school. It was for Summer Day Camp at a local church. Day camp lasts 1 week in July, Monday thru Friday from 7:45am to 5:00pm and costs $169.00. Eric really wanted to go, but I’m sorry I just can’t afford that much money just for 1 week’s time. What about the rest of the summer? So I was talking to the boyfriend and I mentioned perhaps he’d be interested in something else, like Karate or something. My mom had suggested it before, and Eric would really love it. He’s always saying he wants to learn Karate. Plus he’s gained quite a bit of weight this year, and Karate might actually help slim him up a little bit. So I decided to start pricing the Karate uniforms for kids. Wow, some of them are quite expensive and you don’t really get much with the uniform. I found a couple of places selling Martial Arts Gear for reasonable prices. I’m going to find out how much Karate classes are, exactly what he would need for the class, and then price the uniforms again and add it all together to figure out exactly how much it’s going to cost. I think he’ll benefit from taking a Karate class. It’ll help teach him discipline, as well as self defense, and keep him healthier.
