Chia Pets

My son got a Shrek Chia Pet this past Christmas. It comes with enough seeds to plant it 2 or 3 times. The first time we did it together, and it was pretty gross in my opinion. You have to soak the seeds for so many hours and it turns into some gel-like substance. You spread this on the Chia and you wait a couple of days and it’s supposed to start sprouting. What they don’t tell you is that on the inside mold may start to form. There’s really not much you can do about it. I cleaned it up and we let it dry out.. for several months. Two days ago he wants to do it all over again. Oh yay. I help him get everything prepared, and then I let him apply the seeds himself. He gets them all over his hands and then shakes his hands off and these little seeds fly all over the kitchen! I had seeds stuck to everything! It was gross, and took forever to clean. I was less than thrilled. Anyways, the Shrek Chia is now sitting on the dining room table attempting to sprout. It’s ugly. I really would like to slap the guy/girl who came up with this idea. Hmph.

P.S) If you ever decide to get a Chia Pet, make sure you do it outside. It’s messy.

And the song makes it sound so fun! “Cha-cha-chia!” and stuff to that effect.

I remember Chia Pets! I never had one, which I’m guessing is a good thing now that I’ve read this!

Wow, all over the kitchen! How awful. Why not just toss it out, so he won’t have the bright idea of trying this again?
